Happy Mommy Hour of the Month, Clarissa Marquez, Co-Owner of Social Dynamics Marketing Group.
First let me start by saying Thank you Blaire for choosing to me to be the Happy Mommy Hour of the Month. You have only been a part of my world for a short time, yet you have made one the biggest impacts on my life. I have always put my life “projects” in God’s hands and trusted that things would work out as he meant them to be. That is exactly what I did when I started my own company. Never in my wildest dreams did I know he would bring such amazing people into my life. Thank you for your friendship and thank for your partnership.
My Name is Clarissa Marquez, and I am the owner of Social Dynamics Marketing Group. My business partner is my 19-year-old son, Dominic. I am a proud daughter to a United States Navy Vietnam Veteran and Elementary School Teacher. I am a Godmother. I am a mother to an incredible son and bonus kiddos. I am a partner to an amazing man who has shown me incredible support and love throughout our relationship. I am also proud to brag that I was the
first one in my family that graduated from a major university, The University of Arizona and my momma was the second person in our family to graduate from the UofA! GO CATS!
That part of being a working single momma was the simple part of it all. Co-parenting was the challenge! It seemed like a never-ending court battle. When my son was 5 years old and after a heated 3-year court battle that his father lost, he made the decision to move out of state to pursue his career and education, leaving us behind. I was ok raising my son on my own. I had the support of my amazing parents. What made this time difficult was always feeling like I was walking on eggshells with my co-parent because if there was something that I did that he did not approve, we were back in court. It was ruthless cycle that that finally ended 2-months after our son turned 18. It was this court date that ultimately destroyed what was left of my son’s relationship with his father. For 18 years I shielded my son as much as I was able to from the constant court battles; however, on that last court date, he became aware of just about everything that I had hid from him. Since he was 18, he had to testify in court. As devastating as this day was and all the battles were, it made us stronger and by the end we found strength to stand up for ourselves.

When my son was 16, my father, his Tata, my Daddy was diagnosed with cancer, Multiple Myeloma with amyloidosis. This was linked backed to his exposure to Agent Orange while he was serving our country during Vietnam. He was admitted to the hospital on the same day I was celebrating my 37th year in remission from Ewing’s Sarcoma, a type of a bone cancer. Our family was heartbroken. It was at this time that I began reevaluating my career and made a big move that allowed me to care for my son, deal with the court battles and my Daddy’s cancer battle. Fast forward to March 2021, he is still undergoing chemotherapy and he was just diagnosed with a second type of cancer, Prostate cancer. The multiple myeloma has caused so much damage to his entire body, that he is undergoing several tests so that we can determine the right treatment plan.

Shortly after my son turned 19, right in the middle of a pandemic we took a leap of faith and decided to open our own company. It was finally our time to pursue our careers and our education. We have been open since September 2020. This season of our story is still in the process of being written. This by far has been one of the exciting mother/son adventures that we have been on. I think the coolest thing by far is watching him take school more seriously. He is currently earning a Bachelor of Science in Game Design with a minor in Digital Marketing from Full Sail University. With each digital marketing class he takes, he gets more excited because he can relate more to my role in our business. I am also learning a couple of new tricks too! For the first time since September, he is more eager to take on more responsibilities with the posting and creation of content. I cannot wait to see where this adventure takes us.
I am blessed that God chose me to be Dom’s momma! I am even more grateful that he taught me to breathe and learn that it is ok if our life is not perfect! With each breath I get to be present in the moment every single day. Even in the nitty-gritty moments.
